Saturday in Brooklyn.

February 27, 2010

View from the brooklyn flea market! How adorable is this hutch? Too bad it was already sold. Stealing my boyfriend’s iphone since I forgot my camera. Now I want one… I could get addicted to blogging on the go!

Just a friendly reminder…

…Please vote for my friend Audra and her fiance in Crate and Barrel’s dream wedding contest.

It would make me a really kick-ass bridesmaid if  I could get all you lovely blog followers to vote so that they win. It would also make a really kick-ass party for me to attend and photograph and share on this blog, so consider that too. Click here to vote.

Reruns and transitions.

February 26, 2010

No Project Runway post today, I was quite disappointed to see that last night was a repeat when I turned on the TV.  Posting in general has been light this week since I’ve been swamped at the office trying to finish everything I’m working on in my current job before I move on to my new job in a week.

The move isn’t just new responsibilities, it also means a new desk (again). No corner office for me though, just another taupe and gray cubicle. I was thinking this weekend, while flipping through O Magazine and seeing Jenna Lyons’ desk, that I would be so much more productive if I had a creative work space.

A bright orangey-red desk and an inspiration wall would certainly make staying late at the office a bit more enjoyable. When you think about it, we spend the majority of our waking hours at work, shouldn’t it be as important to decorate those space as it is to decorate our homes?

I’ll have to check with my new boss about accessorizing my next cubicle, perhaps some imperial trellis wallpaper?

All in orange.

February 24, 2010

This morning on my bus ride to work, I looked down and realized in my pre-coffee haze that I was carrying my new orange tote while wearing an orange quilted winter coat and reading a book with an orange hard cover.

This was by no means intentional, but I think that perhaps my subconscious is making me gravitate towards this color in preparation for what looks like a very orange Fall.

So many of the NY fashion week designers had bright orange in their collections last week, and I for one am quite excited about this trend — the warm colors are so happy and chic!

Things that are awesome about today include…

February 23, 2010

The fig and prosciutto pizza I made for dinner:

The promotion I got at work! (notice how that came second to pizza? Yea. I love food.)

And the awesome print I ordered  from Design Crisis as a present to myself for kicking ass. I can’t wait to frame and hang this bad boy. Nothing says congratulations on your promotion like a giant framed horse… made of other horses.

Lady liberty.

February 23, 2010

When I saw my mom this weekend, she had packed a tote bag of clothes for an overnight stay at my sister’s and an additional tote bag that was filled to the BRIM with magazines. I probably scanned through a dozen or so fashion and decorating magazines and have to say, big props to the Target PR team. Their Liberty of London line (launching March 14th — you know I set myself a reminder on my blackberry) was in every single magazine.

I’m more excited for this than I was for the Orla Kiely collection! The prints are amazing:

The canisters? They will be mine. The candles? Also will be mine.

The real gem of this collection is the Liberty bike, it’s every city-gal’s dream: cheap transportation — with looks to kill! I’m sure they’ll be sold out faster than you can say “Target Designer Collaboration.”

Home rules.

February 22, 2010

I got a pretty amazing TJ Maxx score this weekend… Nate Berkus’ Home Rules was among the stack of design books in the stationary aisle… and it was marked down to 2$! I feel a little sad for him that his book is in the bargain bin; it’s actually pretty good. It has some really great pictures of organized kitchens, and a few stellar shots inside Oprah’s closet. I wish I had a scanner so I could share!

(Side note: I have this sickness, when I get a good deal, especially from TJ Maxx, I like to keep the price tag on it. Then when I’m reading the book a few years down the road, or move an object I’m rearranging, I get a rush of excitement being reminded what an awesome deal it was. It’s so tacky, but I can’t help it!!)

Back on the runway 6.

February 19, 2010

Congratulations Seth Aaron, as the winner of this challenge you have been contracted to make a million more looks for the Avril Lavigne collection. Adding zippers and grommets doesn’t make you innovative, it makes you a middle-aged punk rocker. You get half a second of praise though for making that little girl’s hair look cute.

Amy? Congratulations, you get 30 lashes and 4 snarky comments from Nina and Michael for actually being innovative. Child model, no one cares how much you love your adorable petal skirt.

I mean really, you knew she was going to be in the bottom. There was no way that the judges were going to let THAT many bitchy comments just fly away, fish jokes, flower jokes, circus jokes, too many to choose from! It’s too bad, I liked the concept, and think if the second look had been a skirt, she would have been safer.

Oh, and Tory? Blue and orange actually ARE complimentary colors.

At least next week is a good ol’ make a dress out of things that aren’t fabric challenge. We need this!

In other news, I’m loving the looks from Emilio and Anthony’s Bryant Park shows (don’t worry, I’m not spoiling anything, they let more than just the top 3 designers show to throw off the media).

And Michael Kors also showed his collection this week — the knit wear is very Mean-a Irena inspired, no? Has the Master taken a lesson from the Student??

Rustic charm and wheels.

February 19, 2010

My great table hunt continues for the perfect end table, and I’m totally bored by all of the options out there. I want something with character, which is so hard to find without spending hours scouring craigslist and losing out on eBay bidding wars.

Of course, if I had an endless budget, it would be easy to find something. My eyes were quite pleased by the contents of the new Sundance catalog… that Robert Redford sure knows how to pick out some stylish rustic home goods. The tugboat side table has all of the character and charm I’m looking for, with an eye-ball-popping price tag…

Surprisingly, UrbanOutfitters is selling a table that’s pretty similar in style, but not so similar in price. I love the wheels and the combination of materials. Unfortunately it’s a little too tall for my furniture…so I’ll just look at it longingly and continue my search…

Stocking stance.

February 18, 2010

I have somehow managed to rip, run, and shred multiple pairs of stockings and tights in the past week. I think it’s time for some major revamping of my undergarment drawers. Or maybe I’ll just rethink the stockings-stance entirely?

From the looks of the runway, socks are making a statement from ankles socks with high heels to knee socks paired with cocktail dresses. I loved the look in Cynthia Steffe’s collection — do you think the knee sock can make a comeback? They sure do look adorable on stick-thin models with sky-high legs.
