Traditional apartment.

I usually pass by Traditional Home on the newsstands, it tends to be a bit too formal for my low-budget, apartment-friendly tastes. I bought it recently though after seeing a sneak peek online of something right up my alley, a tiny studio apartment … on a budget!

The apartment featured is Lauren McGrath’s, who the article describes as a young professional that needed to furnish her first apartment. Lucky for Lauren, her mom is an interior designer and former Martha Stewart Omnimedia alum. Not a bad lady to have around…

They claim the apartment was decorated on a budget with a mixture of Ikea staples, flea market finds, hand-me-downs from her designer Mom. They also purchased a few “investment pieces” like a brand new Mitchell Gold settee (Nate Berkus makes a pretty similar version in nearly identical ticking, which I’m eyeing). Now, the whole budget-angle goes out the door when the sources for the article are listed as “owners collection” and “call for pricing” but the studio apartment is adorable regardless.

I love the teeny tables in the living space, and the mixture of modern pieces like the lucite stool paired with more worn in elements like the vintage desk. And the settee — while beyond my means, even for an “investment piece” — is so perfectly scaled.

Oh I lovelovelove the look of that apartment (the combination of older and more traditional style pieces with sleek modern stuff is pretty much what I’m trying to do in my own apartment)
And I’m really loving the use of a couple of small tables in place of a coffee table–I’ve been having trouble finding a coffee table that is a style I want and that I can afford, and this would be an awesome solution!
