Red Carpet Review.

This is shaping up to be a pretty good week… warm weather, new job, lots of my favorite TV shows are coming back on (can’t WAIT for Gossip Girl) and it all kicked off with the Superbowl of celebrity, the Oscars! I stayed up way too late last night watching the festivities, but was glad I did — it was a great production with even greater fashion (and a few misses too).

J.Lo and Amanda Seyfreid both showed up in almost identical ensembles! It’s amazing there were two dresses on the carpet both made out of bubble wrap — is there a Project Runway challenge for making dresses out of packing materials that I missed?

Charlize Theron and Sarah Jessica Parker both took big risks on the carpet. I think Sarah Jessica’s choice was a good one, I hemmed and hawed over the dress all night, trying to decide whether or not I liked it, but when she presented on stage I saw the back of the dress with even more detail, and was finally convinced — she pulled it off! Charlize on the other hand? I think the best word to describe this dress is… distracting?

Ruffles were a huge trend and some people knocked the look out of the park.  Both Demi Moore and Elizabeth Banks played it right, their ruffly dresses were soft and flowing.

There were some examples of ruffles gone bad on the runway too. I thought Zoe Saldana and Diane Kruger’s dresses were overwhelming! Zoe’s ruffles were stiff and bulky, and Diane Kruger, who is a skinny little thing, looked so bulky with all of the layers extenuating her hips.

My best dressed picks for the night? I thought the Best Actress nominees looked the part — Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep both had that Hollywood glamour that makes the red carpet so fun to watch.
