Painted red.

I was leafing through an old issue of Domino and saw these red-painted shelves. Red is one of the colors you won’t see anywhere in my closet or my apartment — but paired with all of the white china and blue glasses it looks quite glamorous, perhaps I haven’t given red a fair chance. I think red can be a hard color to get right, what do you think — do you decorate with red?

I’m the same way, red is a color I steer clear of. But I do love the way this looks! I think my interpretation would be a more pinky red.
I use red as an accent in my mid-century styled adobe, per primary colors (although not in over abundance). The red shelves are a brilliant idea, makes the white china pop.
I remember reading somewhere that red was a juvenile colors people decorate with. As in, you paint your entire bedroom red in your first place after college. But I think in small doses, it can definitely work and not feel overwhelming!
I agree with Annelise—small touches of red are so lovely, and they can be quite glamorous too. I love it for accessories, and lately I’ve been embracing it more and more in my apartment.
These red shelves are on the money!
