We’ve been in our house for exactly one month now, and are starting to finally feel settled (yay!), but aren’t in a place yet to be hosting a massive Thanksgiving dinner. I dream of this though! Maybe in the next few years we’ll be ready to host on our own, I mean, it’s basically the Super Bowl of entertaining and eating and I think I’d be a pretty strong contender at that game (ladies and gentlemen, the first time a sportsanalogy has ever been used on this site!). Even though I’m not hosting, I still have lots of ideas for a spectacular Thanksgiving tables to share, so I worked with Julie from Posh & Prep Calligraphy to come up with a few special details that are easy to translate to your own turkey day celebrations!
#1 Give Thanks Notes. Everyone has a cheesy aunt or grandparent who makes you go around the table and say what you’re thankful for (which I love!) so go ahead and give everyone some time to think about it by putting a small notecard on their plate with a fun pencil to write down exactly what they’re thankful for this year. Bonus points: Top the note with a mini rosemary wreath tied up with bakers twine, it’s a darling touch!
#2 Holiday Spice Favors. Party favors should not be reserved for just weddings and children’s birthday parties, can we all agree on that? Mix up some seasonal herbs and spices (rosemary, thyme, sage, cinnamon and anise are in this mix!), package them up in a clear bag with a fun label, and add instructions for guests to bring them home to simmer on the stove with a bit of water for a delicious homemade holiday scent.
#3 Fruity Place Cards. The simplest way to add a seasonal pop of color to your table is to write your guests names with a metallic permanent marker on a rich yellow-y orange pear. Tie a ribbon around the stem, or leave them plain for a classic look.
#4 Amped Up Leftovers. Grab plain takeout containers from a restaurant supply store, your craft store, or order them online. Just having great containers will make it easier to dish out leftovers to your guests, but to really impress them hand-letter fun sayings or a festive-script version of the word “leftovers” for a special touch.
I seriously question whether you only have 24 hours in your day like the rest of us. and joining forces with Julie is genius.
