Something wonderful happened this week. The temperature began drop just a bit and that crisp New England air felt distinctly like the arrival of autumn. I always have a mixed reaction to the changing of the seasons; I get a little sad putting away the beach chairs and watching the ice cream shops close up their doors. There is no better season though, in my opinion, than fall in New England. Our house, located in a coastal town, tends to skew summery when it comes to décor. In fact, when I recently shared some updates about a big bedroom renovation, I decorated with a summer-escape in mind – I even framed pictures of vintage bathing suits! So with the change of the seasons, it felt like the right time to swap out a few accessories to give our space a cozy, autumnal update. I popped into Marshalls for some inspiration while out running errands, and as always, left with a shopping cart full of surprises.I found the coziest plaid throw for the reading nook area in our bedroom, and used that as starting point for my autumn-update! I love that it looks like a rich wool throw, but it’s actually way softer (and the price tag was amazing too – under $20!).I found a few more fun accessories at Marshall’s to finish off the space; a crewel work pillow, some rustic wood accessories, and mixed in my own pieces like a vintage painting, books, and touches of brass. My favorite find of the day? An adorable pot with a sleepy little face on it – a steal at $4.99 – that I promptly filled up with Halloween candy. Can’t wait to crack into a book with a cup of coffee in this new cozy little nook! Head over to the Marshall’s blog for more details on my finds and this reading-nook updated.

It’s a rare occurrence that I leave Target without a spin through the home section. I’m about 50/50 on how often I leave with a new lamp or a throw pillow, and I know I’m not alone – you do it too. I’ve recently noticed a few items from new Project 62 line in stores and decided to spend a whole evening combing through every new product online because it’s so good. It’s got the mid-century modern spin that I love mixing and matching in my own home with other new and vintage pieces, and most of the designs look far more high end than their price tag suggests. In fact, after my hours of scrolling, I thought I’d share my 10 favorite items from the new line that are all under $80. read more

This week I fluffed the pillows, rolled out a new rug, and tucked a few fresh flowers and some newly framed artwork into our new master bedroom. This was a huge project for us, and one of the best makeovers we’ve completed in our house. I had to go back to my email account to figure out when exactly we started the project and I laughed when I realized we’ve been working on this room since mid-April. Projects used to go a whole lot faster pre-baby, but after nearly 4 months of chipping away at the renovations, we’re “finished” with the bedroom! read more

Did you catch my last post about our guest bedroom overhaul? Well, more fun house projects are in the works, and this one is an even bigger undertaking: our master bedroom! I truly can’t wait to show you the before and after pictures of this little makeover because the before pictures are rough. I’m talking should-we-even-buy-this-house level roughness. read more

I have failed to mention on the blog that we have two fun house projects going on behind the scenes right now. When we bought our house there were plenty of quirks (like, have I mentioned my office had a hair salon sink on one wall?). We’ve been chipping away at these decorating relics room by room, and I’m so excited that we’re finally tackling two big projects upstairs: the guest room and our master bedroom! I’ll share more about the master bedroom tomorrow, but first a little sneak peek at what we’re planning for our guest room:  read more

Four days away from my due date and the artwork is hung, the shelves are styled, and the drawers are organized — the nursery is complete, without a moment to spare! This is probably one of my favorite rooms in the house now. My husband painted it (Kentucky Haze by Benjamin Moore), installed floating shelves and hung up all of the artwork, and I stood in the corner and directed (A little to the left! You missed a spot!) — team effort! After all of that hard work it’s one of the rooms in our home that has a sense of completeness — and will feel even more complete when our little tenant arrives soon. I am so excited to share a few more details below!

We are getting into the holiday spirit over here with a few festive little decorations popping up around the house! I have to admit that I almost scrooge’d out on Christmas this year — the task of putting up a Christmas tree during month 9 of pregnancy (and perhaps taking it down with a newborn baby at home?) exhausted me just thinking about it. Luckily my husband pushed me to be a bit more spirited, particularly since my family is going to come and stay with us at the holidays for the first time ever! read more

With a blink of an eye it seems as though the holiday season is upon is! Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and once we finish our turkey, December always speeds right by Christmas and New Years are popping up on the calendar. This holiday season is a little bit different for us, since I’m inching through my third-trimester, we’ll be doing a bit less traveling to see friends and family out of state, and instead having some visitors stay with us! I’m sad about missing a few traditions that my family does in NY, but I’m actually really excited for mix things up and have family stay with us for the first time ever. Making everyone feel at home and special — since it’s a new tradition we’re starting this year — is top of mind for me right now. I thought it was the perfect time to share a few of my tips for how to prepare for house guests and make everyone feel welcome!img_5787 read more

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared some house updates! In general a lot of our home improvement projects slowed down after I got pregnant — not being able to paint has put a damper on some of my DIY abilities. One room that has gotten a bit of a makeover since we moved in that I’m excited to share today is the dining room. We painted the dining room, and removed all the doors that close it off from the kitchen and living room only a few months after moving in. After that, we just popped in some hand me down furniture and craigslist pieces from our apartment and walked away. With the holidays coming up, I really wanted to “finish” this space and have it be a place where we could entertain friends and family. Of course no space is ever really finished, but we did tackle a few improvements to give it a fresh look.img_5790 read more

So, nesting is a real thing, huh? I love me some decorating, but I’ve never really been so meticulous about a “plan” for a room before, until I started thinking about how we’re going to decorate Baby B’s room. We were both on board with finding out the gender, so it’s nice to go into the planning process with a girl-scheme in mind. It’s been really fun to research the pieces we want to use in the space, and now I feel like I have some clear marching orders for what we need to invest in, what we’re adding to our baby registry, and what little details will pull it all together. nursery-mood-board-modern-coral
