The Classics.

Sure, it’s only halfway through August, but we all know the lust for Fall fashion comes long before the beach towels and sandals get packed up. I always flip through the September issues and find a crazy trend I want to try for upcoming cool weather — but this year my wish list is filled to the brim with practical basics that have just a subtle twist. Take the classic black tote and add a scalloped edge, or simple white tailored shirt, and bedazzle the collar with gemstones. The best part? They’re worth the investment because of their timeless looks (or at least that’s how I’ll justify the purchases). Are you already craving some items for Fall or are you hanging on to your breezy sundresses until the first freeze?

Pearl details.

I love a good lady-like set of pearls, there is nothing more classic. I spotted these two fun updates to the timeless accessory this week: the soft detail of a pearl adorned sweater from the Lela Rose Fall 2013 runway show last week, and a pair of oversized faux-pearls topped with playful gold crowns. As the fabulous Jackie O would say, “pearls are always appropriate.

Party Pants.

My mailman hates me, for sure, because I’ve ordered about a dozen dresses that have all been tried on and returned — my hunt has been a disappointment. I’ve been thinking perhaps I just need to scratch my idea of the perfect holiday dress altogether and try something new this year.Enter some pretty festive pants I’ve been eyeing — maybe a sharp pair of cropped party pants is just what I need to get me through the holiday season? Would you wear patterned pants in lieu of a holiday dress?

5 Under $50: Electric Pink

This week’s 5 under $50 couldn’t be contained to just 5 — I had to add in one extra item because there are so many fun neon pieces out for Summer. Hot pink pairs perfectly with a white tee and a beach-y glow, don’t you think? Are you playing with electric pink in your wardrobe this season?

Purple and Red.

Lately I’ve been experimenting with bold royal purples and bright tomato reds in my closet. I snagged a light silky purple blouse from Old Navy last week and paired with some of my favorite red chino shorts; then I spotted a purple and red necklace on the sale rack at J.Crew this weekend and scooped it up! I usually associate these colors with the rich hues reserved for the Fall, but pairing them together in light weight fabrics is working for me this Spring. What do you think of this color combination?

5 under $50: Gingham

Is there any more quintessential pattern for Spring than gingham? This week’s 5 under $50 features ginghams of all types; I particularly think the gingham sunglasses would make a fine accessory addition to a white sundress for a warm day of brunching al fresco! Which gingham piece is your favorite?

5 Under $50: White Out

I’m not about to break out the white pants or white sundresses yet — it‘s still only March. But white accessories are fine in my book to introduce when the temperature starts to rise. This week’s 5 under $50 are all white accessories that will have you looking extra crisp without breaking the bank:

Sneakers, purse, earrings, belt, necklace

Cobalt and coral.

I noticed a pattern popping up in my Currently Obsessed profile, lots of cobalt and corals hues — both colors look great on their own and even better when mixed together. I snagged that blue blouse at Old Navy this weekend, and paired it with a chunky coral necklace; lots of color with a lot of impact!

Valentine’s day fashion

Valentine’s Day is just a week away! I won’t be throwing a big party like I did last year, but that doesn’t mean I won’t dress the part. I’ll find any excuse to rock my heart and break out pinks and reds from my closet. But not everyone is ready for a full on pink and red color assault, so I put together two heart-inspired outfits that are little more subtle. Do you have any heart accessories picked out special for Valentine’s Day?

New Shoes.

As much as I love shopping for shoes, I have a very hard time buying shoes. Combine my hard to find size with a very short tolerance for uncomfortable footwear and I end up doing a lot of window shopping to find the right pair. But every once in a while I luck out… when I opened this box tonight I crossed my fingers and toes that these ones would work! And what luck, they were a perfect fit!

You can find them here.
