I finally feel like we have our first ‘complete’ room in our house after a mini-makeover of our downstairs bathroom. Of course this is the one room in our house that I forgot to take ‘before’ pictures of, so you’ll just have to trust me when I say that these small projects made a huge impact on this little space. The bathroom was a dark rust color and had a huge dark wood cabinet on the wall and a beat-up, yellowed laminate vanity. Our first order of business was giving it a fresh coat of paint with a really rich blue color — Hamilton Blue by Benjamin Moore — I love how it looks.  Once we started painting, it made the laminate flooring look so dingy and gross, so I made a brave decision to try to tile the bathroom floor myself. I did lots of research online, and got some advice from a friendly sales associate at Home Depot, and managed to do a pretty solid looking job of installing a marbled hexagon penny tileProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 preset read more

Whenever I see pictures of a mint and white bathroom I tear them out for my ‘someday’ inspiration folder. There’s something fresh and clean about these colors in a bathroom — what do you think of this color scheme?

I love this bathroom makeover from the blog AB Chao. The monogrammed shower curtain, the bowl of nail polish, and the cute striped accessories all caught my eye. My favorite part though is the mini-gallery of Polaroid pictures tacked up with patterned washi tape. I think the impermanence of this little art installation makes it feel so special and unfussy. It makes me want to find some film for the dusty old Polaroid camera in my closet! What do you think, do you like the idea of unframed artwork in your home?

I’m more of a hide-your-things-in-the-cabinet kind of bathroom gal, but this little vignette could sway me the other way. On my spring flea-market shopping list is a mirrored or silver tray to corral my perfumes just like this.

I got two new prints for my apartment, one for my birthday last month, and the other I spotted online and had to have. I’ve been moving them around and trying to decide where they should live, but this weekend decided my bathroom needed a little artwork love. I was a little more chipper getting read for work on Monday morning looking at them (especially since I was running late and actually had to embrace my messy hair).

I’ve never been much of a bath person… which is probably because I’ve never lived in place that has a standalone bathtub. Just looking at this bathroom could make me change my mind though. It reminds me a bit of Kate Winslet’s English countryside cottage in The Holiday, don’t you think?
