Scenes from the weekend.

My weekend recap is a little light today, because truthfully I spent most of it hiding in my air conditioning from the crazy heat wave we’ve been having in Boston. I ventured away from the window unit in our bedroom for just enough time to mix up some St Germain cocktails –  anything to stay cool and refreshed! How did you beat the heat this weekend?

Scenes from the weekend.

I went back through a few snaps from the weekend on Instagram, and combined they just look like Summer. I stocked up on lemons to make a delicious, fresh cocktail with elderflower cordials, wild tea vodka, and sparkling lemon water (I got thirsty just typing that!). And another highlight of the weekend was the arrival of a crisp new pair of Jack Rogers sandals in the mail — I had some very happy feet. What were you up to this weekend?

Summer Entertaining Essentials With Society Social.

Some of my favorite bloggers are sharing their summer entertaining essentials for being a savvy hostess this season, up next in the series is the master of the bar cart, Roxy, from Society Social:

Hi lovers!! I’m so tickled to be here sharing my summer entertaining essentials because a good social is what I love for! I live in New York City in a shoebox of an apartment so I’ve got to get creative considering the space constraints and I think a sunset picnic in the park is just the thing for the city girl craving big social style! In this case the park will serve as my living, dining, and bar area! Cheers to you!

Summer Entertaining Essentials with Long Distance Loving.

Some of my favorite bloggers are sharing their summer entertaining essentials for being a savvy hostess this season, up next in the series is my Boston buddy, {av} from {long distance loving}!
Hello there! I’m {av} from {long distance loving}–and I am so honored to appear on the pages of DomestiKatedLife today! In keeping with her summer entertaining theme, I focused on a summer staple: backyard brews. Everyone knows that an ice-cold beer is the perfect treat after a long, hot day, but it takes a great hostess to find a way to make this simple treat special…
During the summer I lived in France, I discovered a super refreshing drink known simply as the Monaco. The recipe? Two parts beer + one part lemon-lime soda + a splash of grenadine. For those of you beer purists out there, this may sound a bit strange…but trust me, any woman who says she doesn’t drink beer will drink one of these sweet treats. Beer can be a pretty cocktail after all!
To help you win the best backyard on the block, an endless supply of sunscreen wipes and a basket of flip flops will certainly help your cause. Serving anything out of a paper straw ups the ante as well! These coffee-esque beer mugs {on super preppy coasters} take a fun twist on your normal beer glasses. The pièce de résistance, however, is the endless supply of Monacos {or whatever you like} in your glass footed beverage dispenser.
I hope you enjoyed this summery round-up–many thanks again to Kate for having me today!

Summer Entertaining Essentials with Sequins & Stripes.

Some of my favorite bloggers are sharing their summer entertaining essentials for being a savvy hostess this season, up next in the series is the lovely Liz of Sequins & Stripes…

Hi there! It’s Liz from the fashion and style blog, Sequins & Stripes, and I am thrilled to be here today sharing some of my go-to’s for easy summer entertaining. Because the summer months tend to be crazy busy, impromptu parties are usually the easiest to throw together and the most fun to create. I like to keep a few pieces constantly stocked in my kitchen {like these pretty paper napkins, a book of cocktail recipes, and easy decor} and add a few details to make the party feel special. This summer I dream of bringing a Palm Springs inspired girls brunch to my patio in Chicago…

Design Darling mini vases  //  Macaroons and Sweets from my favorite local bakery  //  Bottomless glasses of champagne  //  Mrs. Lilien’s Cocktail Swatchbook  //  Pretty patterned napkins  //  Kate Spade Market Street Plates  //  Bamboo Flatware  //  Pretty Design Darling topiaries for additional decor  //  Society Social Fifi Chairs for seating  //  Colorful bistro tables  //  A striped umbrella to shade my guests from the summer sun

I would request that all of my guests dress in their favorite sunnies and biggest and brightest baubles, wouldn’t that be lovely? A huge thank you to Kate for having me today! Happy summertime to everyone!

Summer Entertaining Essentials with Chevrons and Stripes.

I’m very excited to kick-off a new series on the blog today where some of my favorite bloggers are going to share their summer entertaining essentials for being a savvy hostess this season. Kicking off the series is my new friend Sarah of Chevrons and Stripes!

I was so excited when Kate invited me to guest post on my summer entertaining style because I absolutely live for the summer social season (phew, that was a lot of s’s)!  I’ve spent every summer since I was born at my parent’s beach house in Bridgehampton, NY and below are a few of our BBQ and bonfire essentials.  Stock up folks, because beach season is upon us!

1| levain cookies, 2| nickel lantern, 3| white pillar candle, 4| slate cheese board, 5| elderflower cordial, 6| mini sparklers, 7| faux bone servers, 8| rope pitcher, 9| table tennis set, 10| opal glass vase, 11| chevron blanket 12| mortar & pestle, 13| shells for decorating the table

Bloody cute.

Disclaimer: I am NOT a Twihard. BUT, I did get invited to a New Moon movie party and had fun last night with some other vampire-obsessed gals. I have to share the hostess’ smart party idea… she melted down red candies and rimmed the top of the cocktail glasses with candy “blood.”

How cute are they? I think the idea could be repurposed for any theme party… pink candy for a bachelorette party? Orange for a Halloween party?

Grown-ups Get Cocktails.

I’m cranky that I’m at work and not heading back to school with a crisp new package of loose-leaf paper in my Lisa Frank trapper keeper.

Being a grown-up can really stink sometimes… except for when I remember that grown-ups get cocktails.

Perhaps the best of both worlds would be a Pimm’s Cup in this notebook paper inspired glass? Yes, I think that’s a fair compromise.
