Valentine’s Day Gift Guide.

Did I mention yesterday how much I love Valentine’s Day? I’ve been eyeing lots of cute little Valentine’s Day-inspired gifts lately, from trinkets for your girlfriends to a few little gifts I wouldn’t mind myself (yes, I mean you, you darling little gem locket!). Who’s your Valentine’s Day gift list? Untitled-1

Purple and Red.

Lately I’ve been experimenting with bold royal purples and bright tomato reds in my closet. I snagged a light silky purple blouse from Old Navy last week and paired with some of my favorite red chino shorts; then I spotted a purple and red necklace on the sale rack at J.Crew this weekend and scooped it up! I usually associate these colors with the rich hues reserved for the Fall, but pairing them together in light weight fabrics is working for me this Spring. What do you think of this color combination?

Bright and bold.

Perhaps its that Valentine’s day is just around the corner and I’m in a mood for hearts? Or perhaps it’s the idea of  mixing a drink off that bar cart that appeals to me? Either way, I’m feeling this little nook today. I love the bright red and pink hues and all of the bold pattern — it’s loud in the very best way.

Red carpet reds.

The red carpet at the Emmy’s last week clearly favored one tone above all else: red. Nothing says glamour and glitz like a red dress. I’m always a little too timid to try a red dress for everyday-wear, but with the classic cuts of some of the red dresses popping up this season, I might be changing my mind! What do you think, are you brave enough to rock red?

Color inspiration.

After my spark of inspiration yesterday I got to shopping and sourcing some new ways to bring a brighter color palette into the living room. I still want to work around the bigger items in the room, like my upholstered chair in a graphic mustard print, and the gray walls and Cb2 pouf I recently bought. So I decided to mix in some pinks and reds and a litttle bit of blue — fabrics have been ordered and I’m ready for a mini-makeover!

Flaming Red.

J.Crew is calling it Flaming Red, others might call it vermilion, but I think the only thing you need to call it is the “it” color for Fall. Walking past storefronts this weekend I saw it in every display popping next to camel coats, boyfriend jeans, and leopard print accessories — I love how crisp and bright it looks in every variation.

Painted red.

I was leafing through an old issue of Domino and saw these red-painted shelves. Red is one of the colors you won’t see anywhere in my closet or my apartment — but paired with all of the white china and blue glasses it looks quite glamorous, perhaps I haven’t given red a fair chance. I think red can be a hard color to get right, what do you think — do you decorate with red?

Fall makeovers.

People must be getting all of their home improvement projects wrapped up before Fall turns to Winter, because I have been entertained with some pretty fabulous makeovers this week in my RSS feed.

ThreeMenAndALady Makeover

I’m such a sucker for yellow and grey, this makeover puts my bedroom revamp to shame. Michelle from Three Men and a Lady did an outstanding job with her bedroom; what a haven – I’d never get out of bed if this was my room!

LittleGreenNotebook makeover

And this office makeover, wow. Jenny from Little Green Notebook pulled this impressive room together on an almost non-existent budget. In addition to her savvy re-design, she’s convincing me to give red another chance. I’m never a red person, but I’m nearly converted after seeing it paired with her aqua desk and accents.

Real Housewives, Real Renovations.

My previous “Real Housewives of NYC” post is getting some major traction today, which leads me to believe that everyone is Googling Silex’s Brooklyn brownstone renovation.

I have to say, even though I’m positive they’re both cuckoo, and I would never ever feel comfortable or relaxed in their new living room, at least they have fun with decorating! The red and black was very loungey, but it was different and playful, and it represented them: over the top, attention-grabbing, and dramatic.

I think their kitchen was the real star of the renovation though, and it didn’t get enough camera time! They were too busy zooming in for promotional spots with the GE Monogram appliances; I don’t know about you, but I’m offended when they don’t at least TRY to pretend it’s not product placement!

Also, did you notice they had red velvet cake to match their new decor? (I love a good party theme!)
