Spring Entertaining.

It’s hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that Easter is this weekend, mainly because I’m still wearing my winter coat to work everyday and there’s snow that has yet to melt on the sidewalks. So, to get me in the spirit, I took to browsing some spring-inspired entertaining accessories that are perfect for hosting a festive celebration! Gingham napkins and striped straws in pastel-hues are a sure-fire way to make it at least look like spring.

Pinwheel Cocktail Stirrers.

I got such a rush of happiness this evening when I walked outside my office building and it was warm and still light outside! I popped on my sunglasses and might have actually skipped to the subway. Spring is in the air people, so I’m sharing a crafty little DIY to get you in the spirit. No drink is complete without a festive adornment so I whipped up some mini-pinwheel cocktail stirrers to have on hand for my weekend libations. Making them is super easy: first cut decorative paper into 2″ squares; next cut small incisions into the corner of the squares and roll the edges around a pencil. Finally, layer the four points towards the center and pin them (I use map-tacks) and tack the pinwheel onto a small stirrer. Voila! Now you just need to mix yourself a drink and cheers to spring!

Spring Styling.

In the age of online shopping, sometimes I just get a little burst of joy when a really great catalog pops up in my mailbox. Which is exactly the case when the Spring Boden catalog arrived this week. To me, it feels so bright and fresh and playful — and the styling is spot on. In fact I was almost as excited about that vintage bar cart in the background of one of the models as I was about the adorable patterned pencil skirts! img067img06859602395040371485_xiSTM1jQ_c

Pack a Picnic.

I was sitting on my porch yesterday flipping through the new House Beautiful and enjoying the warm weather, it felt like such a treat to be outdoors. And just in time for Spring weather, I saw in the magazine this adorable picnic set from Acme Party Box Company. This would be such a cute gift to give a friend for a summer birthday — and the tote is cute enough to use everyday! I’m inspired now to get some picnicking in one weekend this Spring.

Starburst.

Someone recently pointed out that I wear mostly black clothing — and for some reason this comment really got under my skin. I don’t know why, I really do wear a ton of black! But while shopping with my girlfriends on Newbury St this weekend I made a conscious effort to get some color in the mix. And I may have gone a little overboard; my purchases read like a package of Starburst candy, but I’m excited to be a little bit more bold!

And the icing on the cake of my mini-wardrobe revamp was seeing Jennifer Hudson wearing the exact same skirt I had just bought that afternoon when I was flipping through my copy of US Weekly — I think that’s a good sign, don’t you think?

April Showers.

I’m not sure how much faith I should put in the saying “April showers bring May flowers” since the whole “in like a lion out like a lamb” adage was disappointingly incorrect in Boston this spring. But if we do have to be prepared for Spring showers, it might as well be in style.

Wedges for warmer weather.

At barely 5 feet tall, high heels should be my best friend. Unfortunately I was not born with the grace necessary to trot around the city in stillettos… which is why I’m very happy that wedges are back in fashion. I’m far less wobbly in wedge heels and have my eye on two pairs for the warmer weather. Surprisingly, these heels are from Aldo and Target and are both under $100!

Tassels and pom-poms.

Going outside yesterday and realizing I could actually take my coat off was such a treat. I’m hoping the weather stays on this Spring track so that I can leave the house in the mornings with just a light cotton scarf to keep me warm. Both of these scarves are on my DIY to-do-list. Some tassel or pom-pom trim is all I need!

TGIF.

No project runway recap today, I didn’t get to watch it last night. I was out celebrating spring and hanging out with friends, good excuse?

So happy it’s Friday, and finally, finally, warm weather :)
