Speaking of pom-poms…

Just as I was lusting over pom-pom trim curtains, I came across a version from Urban Outfitters with teeny-tiny pom-pom trim. Pretty cute — though I still may try to DIY them myself.

Pillow input.

I feel like my animal print pillows need some company, and I’ve been struggling to find a good match. Urban Outfitters is having stellar sales right now online, and I’m considering some green and grey ombre pillows…

But I need some input.  Are they cute? Here is my (very-rough) mock-up of how they’d look:

Rustic charm and wheels.

My great table hunt continues for the perfect end table, and I’m totally bored by all of the options out there. I want something with character, which is so hard to find without spending hours scouring craigslist and losing out on eBay bidding wars.

Of course, if I had an endless budget, it would be easy to find something. My eyes were quite pleased by the contents of the new Sundance catalog… that Robert Redford sure knows how to pick out some stylish rustic home goods. The tugboat side table has all of the character and charm I’m looking for, with an eye-ball-popping price tag…

Surprisingly, UrbanOutfitters is selling a table that’s pretty similar in style, but not so similar in price. I love the wheels and the combination of materials. Unfortunately it’s a little too tall for my furniture…so I’ll just look at it longingly and continue my search…

Cold shoulder.

Styles creeped back from the eighties and we tried to ignore, we tried to resist. But then all of a sudden, you look in the mirror and you’re wearing leggings, ray-bans, and an off-the-shoulder oversized tee with rhinestone embellishments. These things just happen. And so, big shoulders were bound to creep back into our wardrobes too.

I’m just dipping my foot in the chilly waters of the shoulder-adornment trend and bought a striped shirt with sequined shoulders for my birthday party tonight. Some people won’t get it. Some people will. But I’m going to rock them anyway, because it was bound to happen.

I think I’ll look like this, except 2 feet shorter and 30lbs heavier:

Countdown to midnight.

I’m getting really excited for New Years Eve; I’m hosting a party at my apartment for a few of my friends and I’ve been scouring online for ideas. I’m on a budget so I have a few DIY decorations that I will share once they’re in place. In the meantime, here are some of the images that inspired me…

The silverware and pink combination is so classic.

The ConfettiSystem from Urban Outfitters has that punch of 80′s glam that a NYE party needs.

It’s no Times Square, but this faux chandelier would certainly set the mood for the countdown to midnight! (And its on sale!)

Jealous of a teenager.

That’s right, I’m tip-toeing towards 25 and I’m jealous of a teenager. This girl just has the coolest life ever. She blogged about her expensive shoes and fancy vintage designer clothes…  got a deal with Urban Outfitters to design a line of shoes…  gets to go to photo shoots and chat it up with Olivia Palermo…  and THEN she gets invited to the Crillon Ball and gets to rock Chanel couture.  I mean, who wouldn’t be jealous? Just LOOK at that dress!

Hard as nails.

I love my bedroom, but there is still a missing link that makes it seem unfinished.  I bought my bed one year ago today over Presidents Day weekend, and have yet to commit to a headboard. Cruising on some websites recently for a little inspiration, it seems that the nail-head trim headboard is a  growing trend.

I’m loving this one from Urban Outfitters:

And from West Elm:

Still, I think my hesitation is based on the price tags, but it looks like a project I could take on myself. Emily at Imperfect posted her DIY method of recreating the West Elm version, and it cost her just 38$!

Time for a trip to Home Depot.

The zebra predicament.

I subconsciously save every picture I come across where zebra rugs are at the foundation of the room.  They add a splash of glamour to almost any grouping of furniture that sits on top of it, and manage to work with just about every color scheme. When I found a very inexpensive zebra rug at Urban Outfitters I immediately purchased it to add some edginess to my bedroom decor.

When I first put the rug down, I feel in love with it, it added a real pop of energy to an otherwise serene space….but, the love-affair ended there. The rug turned out to be incredibly impractical; every strand of my blond hair and little white fuzz from my blanket stood out against the stark black stripes, and every fleck of dirt or dust contrasted the white.

Needless to say, I had to either make a commitment to vacuum my bedroom 5 times a week, or give up my passion for the zebra print rug.  Guess which scenario won? I’m now living vicariously through these amazing rooms with zebra rugs.
