Bracelets aren’t typically my accessory of choice — within two minutes of arriving at work I’ve discarded them to the side of my desk because of the clanking and clinking they make while I’m typing. But last week at J.Crew I snagged the hot pink link bracelet shown below, and I’m suddenly rethinking my bracelet opinions. That turquoise and crystal combo in the center is the next one with my name on it!

I went to the Museum of Natural History in New York this weekend for the first time since I was a little kid. I still found the dinosaur fossils as amazing as I did back then. What stood out to me this time though were the displays of tiny specimens I zoomed by as a kid. I couldn’t stop taking pictures of the shell displays and was enamoured by the gem exhibit — the colors were amazing.

This weekend I had so much fun hosting a bridal shower for one of my girlfriends. Girly does not even begin to describe it. We had pink lemonade, a cake made out of pink donuts, pink cupcakes with glittery sprinkles, pink rock candy, and lots of sparkly pink and silver garland draped around the room. I had such a fun time preparing for it, and even more fun catching up with the ladies over cocktails and party games.

Some of the images were taken by one of the lovely bridesmaids, Sylive. Check out her work here.

I’m heading down to New York for the weekend and will be attending my very first football game while I’m there. I’m not what you would call a sports person. But tailgating? I can get behind that. Enjoying a cocktail and dinner off the grill in my warm quilted jacket on a cool Fall day — that’s what I’m exciting about. I have been informed that tailgating in the parking lot at an NFL stadium is not going to be the preppy dream that I had envisioned in my imagination — but that’s not going to stop me from bringing my monogrammed boat tote!

All you need is just a dash of detail to make a simple patent pump a coveted statement piece — and a black and white striped heel does just that. Thank you, Kate Spade, for feeding my stripe obsession even more!

They say you should invest in classic pieces for your wardrobe — advice that also carries through in design. I guess you could say I someday aspire to invest in a piece as classic as a white button-down shirt: the chesterfield sofa. This one featured in the Anthropologie catalog is a picture of perfection.

Happy Halloween! I celebrated in costume on Saturday: a cocktail in a coconut, a sailor’s hat, and some nautical duds made me Skipper from Gilligan’s Island. And my sister stayed the weekend; she came with the cutest box of chocolate covered pretzels in festive Halloween sprinkles! How are you celebrating?

Lately I’ve been doing a little thinking on an upcoming bridal shower I’m throwing for a friend with her other bridesmaids; think up a color scheme and theme is so much fun. I thought I’d share the moodboard I’ve been working on — it’s going to be a pink, black and white girly extravaganza. One of my favorite details from these images is the black and white striped table runners — and I whipped up a few this weekend!

Somehow Halloween snuck up on me this year, is it really the end of October already? To get in the holiday spirit I’ve rounded up a few seasonal decor items to give your place a dash of ghoulish party atmosphere. The glittery hanging bats from West Elm are my absolute favorite!

There are two kinds of people in the world: wrapping paper rippers, and wrapping paper openers. Some relish in the frenzied tearing of paper to see what’s inside — but not me, I’m in the latter group. I carefully pick apart the seams of the present, because to me  the wrapping is one of the best parts of the gift. I’ll fold up pieces of the paper to reuse or save if I like the pattern,  cards get tacked up on my bulletin board or fridge, and I’m the one picking up ribbons and bows at the end of the party and rolling them up in my pocket. This why I’m drawn to the chalkboard tags on Kate’s Papergoods (having an awesome name doesn’t hurt either). I love the idea of re-purposing these on different gifts, using them at parties to note seating arrangements, or writing little messages on them for fun. How special would you feel if one was on the gift you were opening?
