Cooking with Gwyneth.

My boyfriend bought me the new Gwyenth Paltrow cookbook, “My Father’s Daughter” and I have been reading it over and over again drooling over the delicious pictures inside. I bookmarked a few of the recipes to try out this week — a salad dressing and stuffed artichokes — and over the course of my cooking experiment I learned that:

1. Artichokes are very photogenic. Dinner may have been a bit late because of an impromptu photo shoot.

2. Gwyenth Paltrow  knows her way around a vinaigrette. I’m having dreams about her chive dressing.

3. Turns out, I don’t really love the taste of artichokes. But the French bread and tomato stuffing? Scrumptious.

Arrows and Feathers.

A few people have emailed me asking where I got the chair prints hanging in my kitchen (seen here). Returning to the etsy shop to share the source, I found some newer hand printed linocuts by the artist Perla Anne that were too gorgeous not to share — I may have to add these two to my collection.

Safety-pin necklace.

Inspired by this necklace, I was amazed to find a giant safety-pin and large crystals at the craft store to recreate the look. A pair of pliers and a few jump rings and it was assembled in under 10 minutes! You can find similar safety-pins here.

Before and After: Living Room Chair

I finally finished upholstering the arm-chair in my living room, and I really mean “finally” — I started this project in the Fall and got frustrated with it and came up with an excuse to not work on it every weekend after that. But now that it’s done I’m so happy with the final look!

Here’s what the chair looked like before, I pulled back the sun-faded navy fabric and found crazy psychedelic flowers underneath:

Rearranging.

Sometimes I get bored with how things look in my apartment and I have to rearrange. I shifted around some artwork and created a little gallery wall in the hallway recently and it’s making me quite happy every time I walk by it now. Do you rearrange in your house?

Entertaining

Brunch.

I hosted my book club for brunch this weekend and had fun setting the table with a new tablecloth and some Spring flowers. Champagne glasses and cloth napkins made a get together with the girls a little more special. I served popovers and fruit salad, and some delicious whole wheat banana pancakes with cinnamon butter, YUM!

Office space.

The office is probably the least ‘decorated’ room in my apartment, it’s very functional but has sloped ceilings which makes for limited wall space. This office has my jealousy burning for a tall wall in front of my desk to lean art against — I love the lighting and layering.

Bathroom organization.

I’m more of a hide-your-things-in-the-cabinet kind of bathroom gal, but this little vignette could sway me the other way. On my spring flea-market shopping list is a mirrored or silver tray to corral my perfumes just like this.

Happy Chic.

I was flipping through Jonathan Adler on Happy Chic Colors, which I got for my birthday, and fell in love with this dining area. I’m a big fan of the metallic shelves and orb light fixtures, plus a splash of citron gets me every time. It’s a really great book with tons of interior inspiration.

Gingham.

Usually I’m obsessing about stripes or polka dots, but I think 2011 is going to be the year of gingham. I just picked up a gingham button down at J.Crew a few weeks ago and I love how it goes with everything. I have a growing wishlist now to incorporate a little more cheery check in my life.
