Our TV broke this weekend… about 10 minutes before guests were supposed to arrive to watch the SuperBowl. Impeccable timing! Luckily we have friends that live nearby who graciously hosted us last-minute.
Crisis-averted, but we’re still sans TV and last night was a true test of our ability to avoid boredom. I made a pizza, caught up on all of my blogs, finished the last 50 pages of my book club book, held a virtual tag sale on Craigslist, and that brought me up to about 7:30.
Which is why I organized all of my boyfriend’s ties by color while he cleaned out his closet. Now that the closet is clean, the question remains … how will we entertain ourselves tonight??
We have been without TV for 6 months, entirely by choice. I’m in grad school, and my partner works in technology. In the beginning we had a lot of spare time, but now it seems like we don’t anymore. We started making pasta from scratch, making our own crackers, playing scrabble after dinner, watching movies (and trailers on new release tuesdays on apple.com/trailers) and playing with our cats. We listen to vinyl records during dinner time instead of TV, and we keep meaning to listen to This American Life podcasts after dinner… but we seem too busy to remember. Good luck filling your time, you might start to love it!

Game night or just go on hulu and watch a movie or they have tons of tv shows.. Not to long ago I watched the whole season of my so called life..
I’ve been flirting with the idea of becoming a tv free family for a while. My husband is all for it. Me, not so sure if I could cope. How would I live without HGTV? When your boys can quote SpongeBob it just seems like it’s time to do something more productive with the time.
