Sailing and sipping.

I felt like I packed an entire summer’s worth of activities into my weekend. On Friday we took a sail around the Boston harbor on the Adirondack III — a belated birthday treat for the Mr — and it couldn’t have been a more gorgeous night. We had wine and cheese and took in the Boston skyline as the sun set. Then Saturday was filled with lots of celebrations and activities for a dear friend’s bachelorette party. We got blow-outs with the bride-to-be to get ready for the day, and did  a walking wine tour of the South End neighborhood, tasting wines and food pairings at different local restaurants — wine and cheese were clearly the theme of this weekend! And our day of fun was followed by the usual bachelorette debauchery of dancing and clinking of champagne glasses. It was a jam-packed weekend and now I’m paying for it — I can’t wait to get in my bed and catch up on the DVR!

Boston Blogger Meet Up!

Last night I worked with my partner in crime Alison to organize a very fun Boston Bloggers meet up at Scampo in the Liberty Hotel. It was such a fun night getting to meet new bloggers and catch up with others. Plus we had the pleasure of sampling the amazing food there; I practically stalked the waiter to get more of the truffled gnocchi bites they were passing around, the sausage stuffed bacon-wrapped dates were another favorite. The desserts were phenomenal too: mini banana pies, decadent brownies, and vanilla bean ice cream on pastries with berries. Are you drooling yet? I can’t wait to go back!

Boston Fashion Week.

I was lucky to catch a few runway shows at The Tent for Boston Fashion Week on Saturday. My favorite of the shows was Luke Aaron who presented gorgeous, lady-like pieces. Peplums, gingham maxi skirts, and smart little structured bags all made an appearance on the runway. And the best part? The long, bouncy ponytails on the models — they looked sophisticated and un-fussy — something to keep in mind on my next bad hair day!

Patch NYC for Target.

I was super lucky to be invited last night to a hear Designers Don Carney and John Ross share their inspiration and present a preview of their new Patch NYC line debuting at Target on September 9th. As a long time fan of kitschy woodland creatures, these pieces were right up my alley. I’ll be ready to line up at my local Tar-jay for a gorgeous feather serving plate and teapot and few quirky little owl candle holders.  Check out more previews here.

Calligraphy Lessons.

Last week I took a calligraphy class with one of my friends in Boston’s North End. I’ve always admired the delicate details of invitations and menus done in calligraphy and I was hoping to pick up the skill in time for addressing my own wedding invites. Here is what I learned: it’s a lot harder than it looks! It was great to understand all of the basic strokes and techniques, but I think it’s going to take a lot of practice before I start writing up cards on my own. I had lots of fun though, and loved looking at all of the different styles in Liz’s gorgeous studio space. Twelve Chairs.

Sometimes the best things are right under your nose. I realized that tonight when I stopped by the  home furnishing and interior design spot Twelve Chairs on my way home from work — it’s right around the corner from my office and somehow I’ve never been in! It was a total feast for my design-hungry eyes, worn kilim rugs, cozy linen covered couches, and bright patterned pillows lined up on shelves. I also got to catch up with other Boston area bloggers at the event they hosted and had an awesome time — if you’re ever in the Fort Point area you must stop by, don’t wait a year like I did!

Sunday brunch.

I had a delicious brunch with my girlfriends to cap off a relaxing fall weekend.

West Elm + Etsy event recap.

I wanted to share a recap of the great event I attended last week at the Boston West Elm. The event, hosted at West Elm with Patch NYC and several local Etsy designers was a total success, I had so much fun with girlfriends sipping on cocktails, indulging in h’ors d’oeuvres, and going on a mini shopping spree. It was quite a festive occasion — I loved the wooden faux-chandeliers decorating the store:

One of my favorite Etsy vendors was Earmark Invitations, in addition to their gorgeous stationery they  colorful pencils with funny sayings on them like “Stay Classy” and “I’m kind of a big deal” — I snagged a set of them for myself and got a few for Christmas presents too!

Another vendor with adorable creations was eclu, their flower pins were artfully displayed on a dress form — I can’t resist the color-coding!

Plus I checked out some of the West Elm products — they have amazing seasonal displays, lots of yellow and gray, and dashes of chevron here and there:

I managed to hold back on the chevron but couldn’t resist some citron … I came home with a new tray to corral my mail and the super cozy chunky tassel throw that I blogged about last week…

Brimfield Recap

Brimfield totally lived up to my expectations; I was like a kid in a candy store, rifling through piles of junk and having a ball.

There was tons of jadeite, to my delight, though most of it was very overpriced, so I just enjoyed looking but didn’t come home with any new pieces. This table had me in a fit of excitement though:

One of the “trends” I noticed was lots of vintage bikes. This yellow one would have been helpful to tote around our loot with its big basket:

And this blue one caught my eye:

I saw that bike right at the end of our thrifting-marathon. The sun was wearing on us and I’ll be honest, I may have been feeling a little sleepy and full after hitting up the “food court” field (what can I say? I love fair food!).

Right behind the blue bike though was my score of the day — just what I had been hunting for, a pair of matching night stands, with drawers, that were under 16″ wide — a feat I thought for sure would be impossible. And they were just the right price, 40$ for the pair!

They’re an atrocious color and are missing hardware, but I’m planning to give them a fresh coat of paint and some fancy new knobs to spiff them up.

My other find of the day was a vintage tool chest that I’m also planning on giving a new life with some fresh paint. When I’m all finished I’m going to use it as a jewelry armoire.

All three pieces are being housed in my entryway, next to a Craigslist chair that’s also on my to-do-list to revamp. We’re now referring to this as the “furniture graveyard” until the temperatures drop and I can actually do some work on them without passing out from heat exhaustion!

Overall a successful trip — I will definitely be making this an annual (or bi-annual??) trip!

Festive Fall.

Getting back to the grind after a long weekend wasn’t too bad today, and I think it was partially more manageable because I had such a fun weekend. I saw my sister, went hiking and leaf-peeping with my boyfriend and had a day of Fall fun with my girlfriends. We spent the day at the SOWA Open Market, browsing the flea market and taking in the sights and scents of Fall.

I can’t believe I’ve lived here for six years and never once went to this market before; it was a great browsing adventure and I even scored a few finds: a vintage Reiner record — I love the colors and text — to frame for my wall, and some fun eggplant beads.

IMG_1312I was eyeing these vintage suitcases, but unfortunately they weren’t for sale… the woman manning the booth used them to transport the jewelry she was selling.

IMG_1293The best part of the market was eyeing all of the gorgeously displayed and richly colored produce at the farm booths:
