I took Jane last week to the Franklin Park Zoo for one of our first official activity outings since March, and she kept saying to me “Mom this is a REALLY fun day.” I totally agree – it was a really fun time, and it’s amazing what a tiny slice of “normal” can do for your outlook these days. Zoo New Englandhas officially reopened both their locations with tons of health and safety measures in place, and I was so impressed with whole experience. read more
A few weeks ago, we checked an item off of our summer bucket list with a perfect warm-weather date night at Fenway Park, thanks to our friends at Nellie’s Free Range Eggs! We are big fans of Nellie’s and enjoy their free-range eggs nearly every morning for breakfast and are even bigger fans after our fun night at The Red Sox game, where we celebrated Free Range Egg Day in support of nutritious, Certified Humane eggs that come from happy, healthy hens. read more
We had the best holiday weekend full of sunshine and barbeques and outdoor time. To kick things off for our weekend of fun, we started on Saturday by taking a trip into Boston to visit the Franklin Park Zoo. We took Jane last year around this time and she was just starting to walk around on her own, so I was excited for her to experience it at this new age where she’s zooming around and interested in everything. We met up with our good friends and got there right when it opened, ready to explore! Jane was so excited to look at the maps (she’s obsessed with maps) and figure out where to start.read more
I’m so very lucky to have a flexible work schedule that allows me to have little weekday adventures with Jane. Her energy is boundless these days and I’ve been trying to think of some new things to do with her that mix up our routine. The spring weather has been so nice the past few days we decided to head downtown and spend our sunny Monday morning exploring Boston. We walked through Faneuil Hall (she picked up a subway map and carried it with her all day!), met some friends and visited the penguins at the aquarium, and culminated our adventure with one of the magical spots in Boston: the Greenway Carousel!read more
Last night, Mike and I got to go on a super fun (kid-free!) excursion in Boston thanks to the team at Marshalls. We started the afternoon off at the Marshalls Fenway store, heard about their partnership with the Red Sox, and got a sneak peek at some of the trends and products that are coming for fall and the back to school season (lots of denim, athleisure, and comfortable spins on classic autumn looks). After we heard about the trends, we actually got to shop them and explored the store for a bit. I came home with a really pretty fall blazer in a soft sage-army green with leather sleeves that I’m SO excited to wear!read more
I had the opportunity earlier this week to spend the most amazing day in Copley Square with the team at Yankee Magazine. This year is the 40th anniversary of Massachusetts Farmer’s Markets, and the Copley Square market (one of my favorites) is one of the oldest continuously running markets in the state. We got the chance to tour the market with the Executive Director and meet with many of the farmers and vendors, and even enjoyed a big picnic lunch thanks to the chef at OAK Long Bar + Kitchen in the Fairmont Copley Plaza. The sun was shining, the food was tasty, and it was the most inspiring summer day. read more
I got to kick the week off at a really fun event with some of my favorite Boston blogger ladies. My friends Julie and Meg run a calligraphy pop-up class called Sip & Script and hosted a session at the most darling home and gift shop in Southie, Neatly Nested. The concept is right up my alley, they get a bunch of friends together, pop some bubbly and pour some cocktails, and teach you the basics of calligraphy. Crafting and cocktails? Yes, please. Speaking of cocktails, they tapped me to craft up a recipe for the signature drink for the night — we enjoyed my spiked and sparkling lemonade and it was a hit. We were refilling glasses and talking about how it’s “sneaky” spiked — you can get the recipe in the images below if you want to mix one up yourself!read more
I’ve hinted a bit at this news on my Instagram stories, but haven’t officially shared my life-update on the blog here: I’m officially self-employed! After 8 long years of running this blog late nights after work, filling my weekends with content projects, and taking many of my vacation days to attend events and photo-shoots, I’ve finally made the jump and decided to make this blog my full-time job! It’s probably the most exciting and terrifying decision I’ve made in a long time. I have had quite a few “oh my gosh it’s finally happening!” moments, and an equal number of, “oh.my.gosh, is this really happening?” moments too.read more
Last week I was sitting down at my computer to do some last minute planning for my vintage treasure hunting trip to Brimfield and I realized there aren’t many resources online for folks that haven’t been before and want to know what to expect. I remember the first time I went and I had no idea where to park, where to shop, or what it would be like. So I thought I would share a few of my tips for future Brimfield attendees, as well as some photos from my antiquing at the July show! read more
We’re calling this the ‘summer of boats’ — I kicked off the summer with a tour of Newport harbor, have enjoyed some lovely ferry rides, and this past weekend myself and ten of my best friends used Vimbly to book tickets on the Adirondack III to sail around the Boston Harbor for an afternoon. We were celebrating a very special birthday for my friend Taz, complete with a boat-side cheese plate, mini-cupcakes, and champagne for our ride. It could not have been a more perfect day, or more gorgeous weather, and we even got the best seats on the boat — it felt like our own little private excursion since we all got to sit together in the separate back area of the boat. Our harbor ride reminded me of two things: 1) gosh I love have a cocktail while out on the water, what’s better than that? and 2) we have a lot of fun when we decide to use our weekends to try something new and break out of our normal routines. So, here’s to more fun weekend activities that break the mold (and thanks Vimbly for giving me the opportunity to realize that!). Now, where are we boating to next? Please note: Vimbly offered me a complimentary chance to use their site and try out their service. All opinions and images are my own.
