I love a good lady-like set of pearls, there is nothing more classic. I spotted these two fun updates to the timeless accessory this week: the soft detail of a pearl adorned sweater from the Lela Rose Fall 2013 runway show last week, and a pair of oversized faux-pearls topped with playful gold crowns. As the fabulous Jackie O would say, “pearls are always appropriate.

As I was trudging through 2+ feet of snow snow this weekend I realized I’ve lived in Boston for 9 winters now, and every single year I have procrastinated buying appropriate footwear for these types of weather conditions. I finally broke down earlier this year and bought a pair of Hunter boots with fleece lining after my gazillionth pair of cheap wellies bit the dust. And let me just tell you, as I pulled on my boots and headed out into the storm it hit me, this is what being an adult feels like: having warm, dry toes. So bring on the cold and the slush Boston, I’m finally ready for you.

I’m not going to lie, I really enjoyed being snowed in this weekend. It was such a great excuse to be lazy, watch movies (saw To Catch a Thief for the first time!), and of course make some delicious comfort food. As part of my ‘get-your-relax-on’ strategy I made one of my favorite indulgent concoctions that  I call ‘fat pasta’ (I’ll let you guess why). It was the perfect splurge for a cold wintry Sunday, yum! Sad to have to leave my house and deal with the aftermath of the storm today, I want my snow day to last for a just a little bit longer. DSC_0008 copyDSC_0025

Did I mention yesterday how much I love Valentine’s Day? I’ve been eyeing lots of cute little Valentine’s Day-inspired gifts lately, from trinkets for your girlfriends to a few little gifts I wouldn’t mind myself (yes, I mean you, you darling little gem locket!). Who’s your Valentine’s Day gift list? Untitled-1

Have I mentioned how much I love Valentine’s Day? It must be all the hearts and hot pink that sucks me in. I went paper crazy over the weekend, picking up some little cards and gifts and paper straws to get me in the spirit. And that heart cookie-cutter came in handy while making some  rice krispy treats a little extra special for a SuperBowl party on Sunday! What about you? Valentine day lover or hater?photo2photo

Sometimes there’s wrapping paper that’s too cute to rip into and discard. Such was the case with this absolutely adorable hot pink zebra paper that wrapped up one of my birthday gifts, I just had to do something with it to keep it around. I used the top of a wooden box to create a small tray and with some paint and a little decoupage I can enjoy the paper every day now.  (I liked the paper so much,  I even went back to the store to get some more! You can find it here: Paper-Source).

I spent my day off tackling a list of home projects: first up was cleaning out our office closet where I was elbow-deep in holiday garlands and craft supplies. While there is nothing as satisfying as knowing exactly where every jar of glitter you own is stored, once the closet door closes there’s a little less excitement about that type of sprucing. Luckily when my Mom visited this weekend to accompany us to our wedding tasting, she brought a big bag of belated birthday presents and in it, a new grosgrain applique pillow from Target — just the kind of visible sprucing I was looking for!

This weekend I experienced perhaps my favorite wedding planning meeting to date: the tasting! I consider myself quite an expert in this category, as eating is pretty much my favorite thing in all the world. It felt like a big relief to go through all of the details and taste every little treat, narrowing down our choices to make the perfect menu. One of my favorite choices that didn’t make the cut were those mini ‘adult’ root beer floats (I’d be lying if I said I stopped after just one).  Now, how do I go about getting invited to more of these tasting events?

In the age of online shopping, sometimes I just get a little burst of joy when a really great catalog pops up in my mailbox. Which is exactly the case when the Spring Boden catalog arrived this week. To me, it feels so bright and fresh and playful — and the styling is spot on. In fact I was almost as excited about that vintage bar cart in the background of one of the models as I was about the adorable patterned pencil skirts! img067img06859602395040371485_xiSTM1jQ_c

I’ve been off-line for a few days doing something very important: celebrating my birthday! I’m a very lucky girl and came home to freshly baked funfetti cupcakes by my fiancé and opened some amazing presents (hello, how gorgeous is that pink zebra wrapper paper?) My favorite gift? A new instax mini camera! It was a hit at the bar; I snapped some instant photos and handed them out to friends as ‘party favors.’ Here’s hoping the rest of year 28 is as fun as this weekend was!
