I was in the hardware store a few weeks back and saw this neon cord in a big bin — I picked up and a little light bulb when off over my head — craft project! It’s been awhile since I’ve dabbled in jewelry making, and decided to put this neon cord to good use in my closet by making myself a new necklace. This project is as easy as tying your shoes — if you can make a simple knot, you can make this necklace! I cut a piece of the cord about twice the length I wanted my necklace to be (you lose length as you make knots). Then, starting in the middle, I added a wooden bead and tied a double knot on either end of the bead to hold it in place. Keep working on either side of the center bead, adding on additional beads and knotting just above the bead opening to hold it in place. I found that make a loose knot, and then holding my thumb on top of it while pulling tight helped keep it close to the bead. Repeat until you get to the desired length, and then grab the two ends of the cord and tie them together in a double knot to finish the necklace off! You can add a little bit of clear nail polish to the end pieces after you trim them, as well as a light coat over the top knot to keep it from fraying. Bright, cute and oh so simple, right?

The new CB2 catalog landed in my mailbox last week and I can’t stop thinking about the pops of pink in their new products. I’m making a mental note, when I someday have more space for it, I will be purchasing a pink settee. And I love the bold stripes on the tablecloth and punchy neon pillows — they’re just so cheery!

Now that our wedding is over, I’m back in the bridesmaid saddle and helped host a shower for one of my best girlfriends this weekend. It’s so fun when your fellow bridesmaids love party planning, this was an all-star team of girls working to put on this shin-dig. The shower had a Palm Beach-inspired theme with bright pinks and greens, lots of friendly lawn flamingos, and pom-poms galore. My favorite detail? The flamingo cocktail stirrers!

The calendar has flipped to October, which means it’s pumpkin season! My apartment isn’t exactly conducive to pumpkin carving, so I opted for a cleaner project and painted my pumpkin patch with some neon pink paint and my favorite patterns: stripes and polka dots! Are you decorating pumpkins for Fall?

Kitchen wares are top of mind as I’m starting to build our wedding registry; I’m loving the feature on Amazon’s registry that allows you to pull in items from other websites (like etsy!). In my browsing-mode I found these gorgeous neon dipped wooden bowls, spoons, and jars from Wind & Willow Home — something a little different from the department store basics!

Are you counting down for the long weekend like me? Memorial Day is always a signal for me that Summer is officially here — which means days at the beach are just around the corner! Are you hitting the shore this weekend? Which beach look would you choose?

Bracelets aren’t typically my accessory of choice — within two minutes of arriving at work I’ve discarded them to the side of my desk because of the clanking and clinking they make while I’m typing. But last week at J.Crew I snagged the hot pink link bracelet shown below, and I’m suddenly rethinking my bracelet opinions. That turquoise and crystal combo in the center is the next one with my name on it!

Interior design and fashion trends go hand in hand, and looking at  the Spring 2012 runway trends, it’s clear to see that neon is here to stay. Including neon elements in your decor can seem daunting for those unaccustomed to bold colors. But the best way to incorporate neon into your home is the same way you should incorporate it into your wardrobe — by pairing bright pinks and yellows with neutral tones and keeping shapes clean and simple. Here are a few of my picks for adding a fluorescent pop of color to your home:

This week I’ve actively mourned the end of Summer, discussed my shopping list for Fall, all while lusting after the New York Fashion Week coverage of shows for next Spring. It’s amazing anyone can keep up, but I sure do try. One of my favorite lines I’ve seen pop up in the NYFW coverage is by Christian Siriano of Project Runway fame. Flowing fabrics and bright neons are a combination I can get behind all year round.

I saw this picture and was inspired this weekend to break out a little neon myself. I painted my nails a similar neon-orange and stacked on some pink and gold bracelets — isn’t it so Summer-y and fun? Lets hope some warm weather isn’t too far away — I could get used to this bright color palette.
