Summer Entertaining Essentials with Sequins & Stripes.

Some of my favorite bloggers are sharing their summer entertaining essentials for being a savvy hostess this season, up next in the series is the lovely Liz of Sequins & Stripes…

Hi there! It’s Liz from the fashion and style blog, Sequins & Stripes, and I am thrilled to be here today sharing some of my go-to’s for easy summer entertaining. Because the summer months tend to be crazy busy, impromptu parties are usually the easiest to throw together and the most fun to create. I like to keep a few pieces constantly stocked in my kitchen {like these pretty paper napkins, a book of cocktail recipes, and easy decor} and add a few details to make the party feel special. This summer I dream of bringing a Palm Springs inspired girls brunch to my patio in Chicago…

Design Darling mini vases  //  Macaroons and Sweets from my favorite local bakery  //  Bottomless glasses of champagne  //  Mrs. Lilien’s Cocktail Swatchbook  //  Pretty patterned napkins  //  Kate Spade Market Street Plates  //  Bamboo Flatware  //  Pretty Design Darling topiaries for additional decor  //  Society Social Fifi Chairs for seating  //  Colorful bistro tables  //  A striped umbrella to shade my guests from the summer sun

I would request that all of my guests dress in their favorite sunnies and biggest and brightest baubles, wouldn’t that be lovely? A huge thank you to Kate for having me today! Happy summertime to everyone!

Thanksgiving attire.

My ever so stylish sister is taking over the blog today and sharing her ideas for getting dressed up on turkey day.

Let’s be honest – you want to make sure you look your best at family holidays; your crazy old aunt (you know you have one too) will be taking pictures every chance she gets. With Thanksgiving just days away, check out some inspiration I’ve pulled to help me put together a chic turkey day look. My goal: casual and cozy in neutrals (leggings are a must) with a touch of sparkle. Because after all, isn’t this holiday about eating?

Gambling girl.

I’m playing the lotto today — it’s the smartest investment strategy for a girl like myself who needs $1500 stat to order this dress for holiday parties this weekend:

No harm in matching.

No harm in matching what you wear to your homewares. Mandy Moore got it right this sparkly dress… don’t you think it would pair quite nicely next to this Aztec inspired pillow?

Sequins and glue guns.

I spent the day shopping at the outlets on Saturday and have come to the conclusion there is no avoiding the sparkles and sequins in every store right now for the holidays.

I came home sequin-less from my shopping excursion, but go to work DIYing a few sparkly pieces at home; I think it’s fair to say that sequins and glue guns go together like PB&J:

All that glitters.

I think it’s fair to say that this is the season of the sparkle. All signs point to sequins for the holidays and I am quite excited. J.Crew’s factory outlet is packed with glittery glamour this weekend, and here are few of my favorite finds:

I also have my eye on some bedazzled dresses from Rent The Runway to wear to Christmas parties. I’ve never tried the service before, anyone have any experience with it? I’d love to hear your reviews!

Cold shoulder.

Styles creeped back from the eighties and we tried to ignore, we tried to resist. But then all of a sudden, you look in the mirror and you’re wearing leggings, ray-bans, and an off-the-shoulder oversized tee with rhinestone embellishments. These things just happen. And so, big shoulders were bound to creep back into our wardrobes too.

I’m just dipping my foot in the chilly waters of the shoulder-adornment trend and bought a striped shirt with sequined shoulders for my birthday party tonight. Some people won’t get it. Some people will. But I’m going to rock them anyway, because it was bound to happen.

I think I’ll look like this, except 2 feet shorter and 30lbs heavier:

Effortless sparkle.

Let’s keep the sequin talk alive…

These sparkly t-shirt dresses say I’m laid back, but I like to party. Totally effortless; paired with some tights and peep toe booties, bam, you’ve got yourself a rocking New Years Eve outfit.
