It’s that time of year in New England that the weather gets a little cooler, the sun sets a little earlier and we find ourselves spending a lot more time indoors (which can make you feel a little crazy if you live with a toddler!). I have been trying to see the bright side of the impending hibernations months though, and have been finding some fun activities for us to do indoors. One of those activities is to is cozy up on the couch and watch a good movie. Of course the best part of movie night is always the snacks. Since I like to go-big-or-go-home when it comes to any kind of snacks, I am all about finding ways to take my movie-viewing snack choices to the next level. I got to try some of Angie’s BOOMCHICKAPOP new microwave popcorn and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try out some of my ideas for a DIY movie night popcorn bar.The new Angie’s BOOMCHICKAPOP Microwave Popcorn comes in three of my favorite varieties -Real Butter, Sea Salt and Lightly Sweet Kettle Corn – YUM. I love that I can have warm, fresh whole-grain popcorn from the microwave in just a few minutes (it even pops in a unique “Fresh Pop Bowl”!). While the tasty popcorn flavors are popping, I put together a few easy toppings on a tray so that everyone can make their own flavor combinations. These are few of my favorite popcorn-toppings ideas: Honey and butter drizzled over sea salt popcorn; fresh rosemary or thyme tossed with parmesan cheese over the warm popcorn, chocolate candies, raisins, and some salty peanuts tossed with lightly sweet kettle corn, or just a pinch of flavored sea salts over real butter popcorn for a gourmet spin on the movie-theater classic. I love that you can take easy to make, flavorful microwave popcorn and make it into a totally interactive, festive, and gourmet experience with these mix-ins. The best part is experimenting to find the best combinations – I love mixing a little bit of the Lightly Sweet Kettle Corn with the Real Butter popcorn for a little taste of each! And then all that’s left to do is to decide on what movie to watch and head to the couch for a cozy night in.
