I just peeked at the calendar and realized we’re coming up on our two-year anniversary of living in our house at the end of this month. It feels crazy that we’ve been here that long, and at the same time it also feels like recently it’s truly started to feel like our home. Part of that feeling comes from completing some big house projects this summer — we finally have a master bedroom! As that project wrapped up, we’ve been putting the finishing touches on a guest bedroom update too. The guest bedroom was our bedroom for the first year and a half we lived here, and now that we have our own space it needed a refresh. To get the room up to 2017 standards, we had to remove some pretty atrocious dark green floral wallpaper. Once we got that all removed we painted the walls a crisp, bright white. There was also an accent wall with wood paneling that needed to be dealt with, and we ended up covering it up with some white shiplap (which when you really think about it, is the wood-paneling of today, ha!). Now the room is finally in good shape and ready to put together!
My friends at Raymour and Flanigan helped me find a clean, classic-looking headboard in a navy linen. I love the shape and the touch of detail in the nailhead trim around the edges of it. The room is on the smaller side, so it’s also a great scale for the bed and makes it feel cozy without overpowering the space. We joke that this is really my mom’s room, since she’s been visiting a bunch to help me out with Jane during this crazy-busy time of year for work. So it was appropriate that I mentioned to her I was hunting for some new bedding and she found the perfect navy and white block-printed coverlet and pillow set to match. She’s very happy with her accommodations because she picked out the bedding herself!
The only other addition to the room that feels “final” was a pair of mid-century modern inspired wooden nightstands that I’m proud to say I stalked until I found them on major sale. I love the brass detail on the bottom of them to pull in the metallic nailhead trim on the headboard.
Now I’m focused in adding in the finishing touches before the holidays descend upon us. On the list: some artwork, curtains, a few accessories and throw pillows, and lighting for either side of the bed. I normally think that those elements are the “fun stuff” when it comes to decorating a room, but I’ve been stumped lately! Lighting has been the biggest challenge, I am in need of inspiration — if you have ideas share them with me in the comments! And I’ll share the full room reveal in a full weeks when I pull it all together.
