I had a  very productive evening last night and after finishing writing thank you notes I managed to start working on some invites to a little Valentine’s day soiree I’m throwing. I thought I’d give you a little sneak peek at the sketches I was working on… I’ll show you the finished product when they’re done!

Two exciting mentions that I had to share…the lovely Alaina of Live Creating Yourself, who created my blog header and background, is posting over on her blog today about the inspiration for the design. Head over and check out the rest of the inspiration boards.

And I was quite excited to see that my little bedroom makeover was featured on Dwell Studio’s “How You Dwell” column on their blog. I’m blushing a bit at the compliment — I’ve been a long time fan of their founder Christiane Lemieux’s designs.

All this ice-cold gloomy-grey winter weather made for some poor photo-taking lighting over the past few weeks, so I’m happy I got a patch of sunlight this weekend to photograph some of my bedroom edits.

I’m ecstatic over the Dwell Studio Draper bedding I got from my birthday (do I have an awesome boyfriend or what?) — it is as cozy as it is pretty. Blogging about it, talking about, and leaving the catalog open on the coffee table with hearts drawn around it seemed to have worked!

Plus I added some new Euro pillows made out of Alexander Henry fabric that I picked up at Grey’s Fabric and Notions in the South End (note to crafty Bostonians,  go check it out, it’s fabulous!) I’m so obsessed with this fabric that I’m considering making more pillows out of it for the living room too.

My Warby Parker samples arrived yesterday; I was impressed with all of your rave reviews after my first post so I gave them a go. I just had to share the adorable way they’re packaged and sent to customers — they get a big thumbs up in the product packaging category.  And they look cute on too, the top and bottom pair are my favorite so far… it’s hard to choose just one!

I had an amazing birthday weekend. My friend threw me a fabulous cocktail party on Saturday night, I had a relaxing Sunday, and then I took Monday off for my actual birthday and had a long lunch that turned into cupcakes that then turned into more cocktails. See that cupcake below? It’s a cinnamon chai cupcake with sticky caramel and pecans. Yup. Be jealous.

Plus I got some awesome gifts, like all new bathroom linens and Kate Spade’s Twirl perfume from my family, a chevron bag that has my name written all over it, and an adorable print of stacked suitcases from a friend’s etsy shop. I’m still playing around with hanging up my new print in different spots in the apartment, I can’t make a choice because I want one in every room.

The present that takes the cake is my new Dwell Studio Draper bedding from my boyfriend, I’ve been talking about that set for months and am SO excited to wash them tonight so I can get them on my bed and take some pictures to share!

Thanks to everyone for all of the sweet comments here and on Twitter, it was a spectacular birthday!

When my grandmother was an interior designer, she snagged old discarded billboard ads and would wallpaper rooms with them. I’ve always thought was such a fun idea and when I saw this image on Apartment Therapy, it reminded me of her story and I had to read on to see how they accomplished the look.

The Better Wallpaper Company will apparently turn any high-quality photo into wallpaper. While I think it would be a little creepy to have a current family portrait on a wall that big, I could definitely see an old black and white photo being pretty like in this example.

Can you think of anything you’d want blown up that big in your house? I certainly wouldn’t want a picture of me!

I recently went to the eye doctor and found out that my prescription changed; I got new contacts but passed on the glasses since I rarely wear them. Then when I got home I realized that I rarely wear them because I can’t see out of them and they don’t look that great.

I want some smart new glasses and have heard great things about Warby Parker… but I’m even more impressed after checking out their website, here is why they are awesome: You can upload a photo of yourself and “try-on” the frames online (I did this and it worked really well). Also, all of their glasses cost $95.00, whoa deal! And they will send you  5 pairs of glasses  to try on at home… for free!

It seems almost too good to be true… but I might try it out anyway because their glasses are freaking cute! Have you or anyone you know ever bought glasses from them? Do tell!

Have I mentioned that my birthday is on Monday? I’m a giant brat about my birthday and always demand that people make a big deal about it. Some people think it’s unreasonable to act like that when you’re an adult, but i don’t hang out with those types of people. I hang out with awesome girls who are indulging my brattiness by throwing me a party this weekend!

Anyway, I brought up the topic of birthdays because they remind me of cupcakes, and I wanted to show you these really cute cupcake wrappers. I’m not in charge of my birthday celebration this year, it’s in the hands of those kick-ass girls, but I still really want to buy some polka dot cupcake wrappers… perhaps I’ll throw a Valentines Day party??

As promised, I have a few pictures of my New Years Eve decorations to share today. I know lots of people hate on New Years Eve because it’s usually expensive, cold, and overhyped… but I have a hard time hating on a holiday that celebrates with cases of champagne and sparkly tiaras.

My color theme for the party was bright pinks and jewel tones, and  I got to use some of the gold polka-dot glasses that I received as a gift to hold clusters of carnations. Then I used remnants of Ikea fabric to cover the bar and whipped up a banner out of leftover felt from my tree skirt projects.

And I made another sign for the living room, also with leftover felt. Plus I got some festive confetti balloons from the party store — I thought they were part of the plastic but later realized when one popped over my head that they were in fact just clear balloons filled with real confetti!

I also repurposed my felt garland from the Christmas tree and wove it around tables and hung it from windows and picture frames, it was worth all of the tedious cutting and sewing now that they’ve been used for multiple events!

Overall the night was a success! How was your New Years Eve? Did you play hostess too?

Are you getting back into the swing of things after the holidays? It always amazes me how much of a struggle it is to get back into work-mode after several days away from my computer, I have such trouble regaining my focus. But I do have some goodies up my sleeve this week, like pictures from my New Years Eve party, my birthday plans, and even a calendar giveaway to help you keep those New Years resolutions to stay organized!

Speaking of resolutions, did you make any this year? I’m notorious for writing a long list of unattainable and contradictory goals like “Stick to a budget, save money” and “Be more stylish, buy bolder accessories.” Last year was the first year I actually stuck to a resolution, I pledged to grow my hair out for Locks of Love. I haven’t cut it yet, but boy is it getting long! I think the key was that it was a reasonable goal, so I need to mull over what a solid, attainable goal can be for myself to work on this year.  I’d love to hear what your resolutions are!
