This Rhubarb Jalapeno Margarita is my ideal cocktail for those first warm summer nights, with sweet and jammy notes from the rhubarb, balanced with the tart lime citrus and just a kick of spice from the jalapeno that I add to the cocktail shaker. It’s a delightful combination, and one that I’ll be making on repeat all season long! Get the recipe for the Rhubarb Jalapeno Margarita below! read more

The inspiration for this Chamomile-infused take on the classic Bee’s Knees cocktail was the chamomile flower – the cheery little blooms remind me of my wedding bouquet and a sure sign of spring. Instead of making the drink with a purely honey-based syrup, I infused it with chamomile tea bags, adding an herbal note to the clean, refreshing drink! Get the recipe below: read more

Mixing up another one of my #DomestikateHappyHour cocktails to kick off the weekend! This raspberry lime vodka soda takes inspiration from my favorite raspberry seltzer at Flour Bakery in Boston. I had it recently and was like, dang, this would make a great cocktail. Prep the raspberry syrup ahead of time and chill it down before mixing it with vodka, soda and a squeeze of lime! (And because I know you’ll ask, the vanilla-infused sugar in the syrup is an important flavor, it gives it a really unique, robust flavor – you can buy it here). Kicking off a new #HappyHour series with quick little cocktail recipes that bring me joy – the perfect way to start the weekend! This drink is a spin on my favorite gin & tonic with hints of fresh squeezed grapefruit, fresh rosemary, and elderflower. The Empress 1908 gin is made with fragrant botanicals like juniper, rose, coriander seed, grapefruit peel, ginger root, cinnamon bark, tea, butterfly pea blossoms and which gives it an all-natural indigo hue. I made it last summer and keep thinking about the colorful concoction – cheers!  read more

I have gotten really into making shrubs for my cocktail recipes over the past few months – I love that they can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for a long time! With the holiday season in full swing, I knew a cranberry-infused shrub was next on my experiment list. It’s as easy as combining the cranberries with equal parts water, apple cider vinegar and sugar in a jar and letting it all hang out in the fridge for a few days. When you’re ready to make your drink, add a splash of your infusion to a glass of chilled Prosecco and top it off with fresh rosemary sprigs and more festive red cranberries (frozen ones will keep your drink extra cold!). My ideal December weekend activity: Christmas carols on the stereo, a crackling fire in the fireplace, and festive cocktail in hand while I hang out with family and friends. This holly jolly gin punch fits the bill for festive cocktails, combining gin (I like Barr Hill), cranberry juice and ginger beer and fragrant, juicy orange slices. You can make the cocktail as an individual serving, or multiply the measurements by the number of guests and mix it in a pitcher for a party-size batch! I love to mix up a signature drink when I entertain, and with the change of the seasons I’ve been adding to my cocktail repertoire with some fresh takes on classic recipes. Moscow mules are one of my favorite drinks for the fall, it’s a great in-between-drink when you’re done with summer but not quite ready to dive into the mulled wine territory. Moscow Mules have a bit of warmth and spice from the ginger beer and still feel crisp from the vodka and citrus. This version gets an extra boost of flavor from a homemade blackberry cardamom simple syrup, which smells just as good as it tastes from all of the fragrant flavor notes. I’ve been experimenting with cocktail shrubs lately and landed on the most delightfully fall-flavored concoction for this cocktail recipe. What exactly is a shrub? It’s a syrup made of a combination of fruits, aromatics, sugar, and vinegar. The version I made here has grated red apples (a nice way to use up all that apple-picking bounty!), apple cider vinegar, sugar, and the loose tea leaves from a chai tea bag. A few cinnamon sticks get added to the mixture for more spice, and then it hangs out in the fridge for a few days to let the flavors combine and become a syrup-y texture. Once the shrub is ready, you strain out the aromatics and combine it with bourbon and Prosecco for a sparkling, autumnal drink! Get the full recipe below: read more

I am feeling so hopeful that some al fresco entertaining is in my near future with all of my friends and family on their way to be vaccinated. You better believe this party-loving-extrovert is going to be ready to host once it’s safe again! I’m honing my cocktail skills (tough work!) to get ready, and this Blackberry-Ginger Moscow Mule is going straight to the top of my menu when it’s time to gather again. It’s seriously crisp and refreshing, perfect for sipping around a picnic table on a warm summer night, and an ideal way to use up juicy farmer’s market blackberries. Get the recipe below:  read more

Let me tell you about the refreshing spring cocktail I’ve been enjoying on repeat lately! I set out to make a Negroni a few weeks ago, only to realize I was out of Campari. After some research on Negroni variations, I came across a recipe for The Contessa, which swaps Campari for and orangey Aperol and dry vermouth for sweet in the classic Negroni. I have been making a riff on this, garnished with orange slices and topped with soda water (orange seltzer works too!) as my weekend treat. The bright colors and fragrant citrus make it such a nice drink for spring and summer months — get the full recipe below:  read more
