I’m long overdue in recapping the baby shower I helped throw for my darling cousin Jana a few weeks ago. She had a dream team of friends and relatives that jumped in to help throw her a shower, so I volunteered to tackle what I do best — decorations. When I was visiting her a few months back she showed me an amazing DIY mobile she was going to hang over the baby’s crib, a festive little thing full of pink and mint tassels and pom-poms — the perfect inspiration piece for the baby shower. We decorated the mantle and dessert bar with tons of paper fans and pinwheels, and a little bit of mint pom-pom tassel fringe that I had leftover from my Christmas tree last year! For favors my sister had the idea to pot mini-succulents in colors to match the rest of the decorations, and my other cousin Julia painted all of the little pots to execute the idea. My favorite detail though? The cat cupcakes. Jana had (semi)-jokingly mentioned she wanted cat cupcakes after seeing Reese Witherspoon instagram them, and I knew I had to make it happen. With some scheming we got her husband to send us a hilarious picture of her beloved pet and made goofy little cupcake toppers as the centerpiece of the dessert bar. They were a hit, and people were as excited to take home one of those as they were the favors!
