New Year’s has always been a big holiday at our house. I have always loved the fresh start, clean-slate feelings that the new year brings, and we always host a big party to celebrate. Over the years the party has evolved – from a big, boozy, countdown bash on New Year’s Eve to an open-house style, kid-friendly New Year’s Day brunch. This year we won’t have our big party in person (but I’m trying to go virtual with a zoom countdown with friends!), but I still plan to give the holiday a festive treatment at home – a small but mighty ringing in of the new year. Especially since on a recent trip to my favorite Christmas Tree Shops andThat! I found a sparkly selection of disco balls that gave me some major New Year’s inspiration for a festive bar cart!
Pushing my cart through Christmas Tree Shops andThat!, I came across a massive display of disco balls and they reminded me a fun restaurant I used to go to in our old neighborhood in Somerville that hosted a disco brunch on the weekends. My wave of nostalgia for days when I used to have brunch out at restaurants on weekends (sigh!), and my general affinity for all things festive and sparkly drew me right into the display. There also happened to be tons of tiny disco balls in the Christmas Tree Shops andThat! Christmas ornament section and before I knew it, my shopping cart was filled to the brim with the beginnings of a disco-themed bar cart for the new year!
For this festive display I filled a big glass pitcher with tons of evergreen clippings – scour your yard or use leftovers from your Christmas tree for this – and hung lots of the little ornament disco balls I found at Christmas Tree Shops andThat!from the branches. The affordable ornaments and the free greenery make for an easy, inexpensive yet high-impact arrangement. I also took some silver napkins and metallic ribbons that I grabbed at Christmas Tree Shops andThat! and used them to wrap up mini champagne bottles for the bar – and of course added some extra disco ball ornaments too!
Two things I always hunt for at Christmas Tree Shops andThat! during this time of year: party crackers and glassware! Christmas Tree Shops andThat! had amazing party crackers this year, and I found some that transitioned across the holidays – a few of them were used at Christmas and these more neutral patterned ones are perfect for New Year’s Eve celebrations. For glassware, I picked up a set of delicate champagne coupes. They look so luxe on a holiday bar cart, but they were so affordable; they give the bar cart a really special touch.
I finished the display off with some very sparkly tinsel that I snagged from the Christmas decoration section at Christmas Tree Shops andThat! and tucked in the large disco balls around the rest of the barware. It might not be the giant party we’re used to this year, but I’m feeling festive no matter what!
